• Provides property condition assessments of commercial buildings for investors, owners, and lessees.  Building types include: office, industrial, hotel, multi-family residences, retail, laboratory, educational, and places of worship.

When providing litigation support to my clients in Hawai’i, I call upon my extensive experience in building inspections, my technical knowledge, and my observational and communication skills to render objective and accurate evaluations.  My areas of service focus on premises liability, building safety, slip, trip, and fall matters, accessibility on paths of egress, floor slip resistance testing, and code compliance.

I use the knowledge I gained when earning code-certified inspector credentials in multiple categories with the International Code Council (ICC), to evaluate the design and construction of stairs, handrails, walkways, ramps, decks, and paths of egress from a building. Published codes, scientific studies, industry standards, and historical documents are referenced to ensure that my opinions, reports, and advice advance from widely accepted practices and defensible positions.

When an injury results from a slip and fall on a floor, I can use the latest and most advanced technology to test the slip resistance of a walking surface.  Testing with an NFSI-approved tribometer can produce both dynamic and static coefficient of friction measurements.  My specialized training as a walkway auditor allows me to interpret the test results into understandable and defensible reporting.  Hawaii Kauai Expert Witness Maui Big Island Coefficient of Friction

As a professional property and building inspector with many years of experience I have inspected and evaluated thousands of commercial, institutional and residential buildings.  I draw on that large bank of experience to establish a standard of comparison I can bring to my clients’ cases as a consulting and testifying expert.

My long time association with Hawai’i provides me with the insight needed to evaluate the unique conditions found in the built environment on the islands.  I use a local base of operations for site visits throughout the state.

In the course of providing expert consulting services I have performed site inspections, provided consultations, written reports, analyzed opposing expert witness reports, and testified.  The cases I have worked on involved personal injury or death.

If your case involves the complexities of building safety, building codes, or inadequate maintenance, please consider me to augment your legal team.  I can use my skills and knowledge to better inform counsel, the clients, and the trier of fact.

• Provides litigation support as a consulting and testifying expert.  Areas of specialty include assessment of the design, construction, and condition of stairs, walkways, floors, ramps, decks, lighting, and other building components.  Retaining counsel for both defendants and plaintiffs have requested consultation in cases involving slips, trips, and falls, and premises liability issues that have resulted in personal injury or death.  Services provided include site inspections, floor slip resistance testing, consultations, research, written reports, declarations, and testimony at depositions and trials.

• Provided building surveys for construction companies prior to, and after major construction and infrastructure projects.  Responsibilities include evaluating and documenting structural conditions of commercial, institutional, and residential buildings, and municipal infrastructure that could be influenced by nearby construction projects.

Case Summary:  The plaintiff was a student at a public college and sustained a broken wrist and head injuries when she tripped on an abrupt change of elevation in the walking surface.  The concrete bricks that paved the exterior sidewalk had settled significantly since they were installed.  I discovered that the State’s architect failed to discover and report on the condition in his regular inspection of state facilities.  The plaintiff fell at one of what were a large number of trip hazards at the campus.  I advanced an opinion that inadequate maintenance and inspection, based on multiple nationally-recognized safety standards, directly caused the trip and fall.  The case settled and the injured party received a substantial payment.
